Welcome to the March edition of our newsletter. The nights are drawing out and despite the cooler weather, there
are definite signs of spring. In this month’s news are a roundup of recent events; a look forward to forthcoming
events; some ideas to help us stay active and also a scheme to make money for the British Heart Foundation.
At our February meeting we presented Jim Price, who runs with Phoenix Striders, with a Certificate of Achievement.
Jim has run 13 marathons in the last 12 months. He did this in memory of his friend Dave Gillespie who sadly died
following a heart attack. In the process of running these marathons Jim has raised £1,405 which he has generously
donated to Hearts & Minds. Jim’s achievement is all the more meaningful when you learn that he was invalided out
of the Army after suffering injury on active service in Bosnia.
We have already mentioned this group in connection with the superb effort by Jim Price. What you may not know is
that they also organise walking events. Exercise is something we all need to take, however little. If you would like
more details of the events that the Pheonix Striders offer, check out their website at www.pheonixstriders.org.uk

Also in February, Danny McCormack, the General Manager of the CTC, gave a very engaging and informative talk
on the growing role of the CTC. Danny was due to have retired last year but is still covering his former role. We
were particularly touched that he chose to talk to us rather than attend a match between Man U and Chelsea!
Although we wish him a happy retirement, we very much hope that he will continue to find time to stay in touch
with Hearts & Minds.
Raising money for the British Heart Foundation by recycling printer cartridges.
The Recycling Factory will make a donation of up to £2 for every inkjet cartridge they can successfully recycle.
They can normally recycle original cartridges for HP, Canon, Brother and Epson. They will not accept damaged
cartridges or ‘no name’ refills. Their website is at www.therecyclingfactory.com
<http://www.therecyclingfactory.com> and their address for recycled cartridges is Freepost RSYA-SZBS-LRTL,
The Recycling Factory, Marsh Lane, Boston, PE21 7TX.
