Newsletter June-August 2018
Welcome to the third newsletter of 2018.
Since the last newsletter we have had 1evening meeting and of course the ever-popular quiz night. This very successful quiz (25th May) was well attended as usual and made a handsome profit after all costs of £516.10.

It was the 10th quiz that Andrew has run for the group and they have raised around £5,000 for group funds. Andrew is stepping down from the role of Quiz Master and we are looking for someone else to take up the role for next year. Our thanks to Andrew and to everyone who has helped and attended over the last decade. I know Andrew is looking forward to sitting on the other side of the speaker next year and taking part.

May: Our very own Ray Simpson gave an entertaining and informative presentation on the use of Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) techniques. Members were encouraged to take part in practical demonstrations on the CPR dummies. This is an important skill to have and we should take the opportunity to practice whenever we can. There are some our members who might not be with us today if it wasn’t for the fact that somebody was able to carry out CPR on them. A sobering thought.

On a lighter note, the projector, which gave so much trouble during Ray’s presentation, has been replaced!

June: Unfortunately our June meeting had to be cancelled at very short notice. Apologies once again for this. Our speaker was to have been Dr Dungu, who has now kindly agreed to talk at our October Meeting
We recently handed over two portable suction units,
£1,500 each, to Chelmer ward. These units
will help patients recovering from surgery by
enabling them to be mobile more quickly after their
operations. This is in turn is hugely beneficial for
their recovery.

July: Our meeting on 16th July will be a presentation from Jackie Lucas about Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA). We have asked that this session is not used as a “Hard Sell” but inevitably they will be looking for business. Do not feel under any obligation to use the company’s services, but use it as a fact gathering session.

Bingo Night: There is no group meeting in August, but again the popular Bingo Night will be held on Friday 17th August. Tickets will be on sale at the July meeting and available from Steve Brown, price of £7.50 to include a fish and chip supper. The Bingo Books will be available for sale on the evening.

September: Our meeting on 17th September will be a presentation from the new dietician, Evie Norman.
