Newsletter July - August 2017
May 15th - We welcomed Diane Treadwell, Nurse Practitioner, from The Robert Frew Medical Centre in
Wickford. Diane gave us a lot of very useful information about how to use GP services and to ask for
information on results etc. Also pointed out was the need to avoid use of Ibuprofen pain killers whilst taking
Ramipril (or any of the blood pressure tablets ending in ‘pril’). Diane’s talk prompted a lively discussion and she
was ably supported by members of the Rehab Team.
June 19th - We welcomed back Noel Watson from the CTC to give us an update on the SSEP/EGG equipment
that we purchased last year. We were treated to comprehensive detailed description of how and when the
equipment was used and the effect on decision making for care of critically ill patients following a heart attack.
Noel also explained that he is monitoring patients as part of a trial to enable the results, which at the moment are
very promising, to be presented to other hospitals.

Hearts & Minds 2017 Project
Patient Lounge , Chelmer Ward - Update
Sister Liz Shaughnessy, from Chelmer Ward, has updated us on progress made in converting an existing unused
treatment room into a Patient Lounge. The room has been decorated and the TV aerial installed. The tables and
chairs are in place and the TV and fridge on order. It only remains for the water cooler to be plumbed in and the
finishing touches put in place. We are delighted to be able to help with this excellent initiative and look forward to
seeing it completed in a few weeks time. The facility will be named after Hearts & Minds.
Wear It. Beat It.
This year’s British Heart Foundation ‘drive’ was entitled Wear it. Beat it. The CTC, as always marked the event. This year
coincided with the 10th anniversary celebrations for the opening of the CTC on 8th June. Hearts and Minds provided support for two information desks throughout the day as in previous years.
Thanks to all those who helped on the day. We raised £445 for the BHF.
