Newsletter November - December 2017
July 17th- This meeting was a little different! We had no planned speaker, so we had a discussion session. Members of the Rehab team and some of the committee moved around the tables facilitating discussions and helping where it was appropriate. The object of the exercise being to share information and experiences amongst patients and their carers. As it says in our strap line - we are a self help group, and talking and sharing is an important part of what we do. The evening seemed to go very well and feedback was positive.
As in previous years, there was no meeting planned for August, but a very successful Bingo evening was run on 18th August.
Unfortunately, we had to cancel the September meeting at very short notice as the planned speaker for the evening was taken ill at the last moment with a TIA. Apparently he has recovered well and we look forward to rearranging a time for him to talk to us.
October 16th We welcomed Kevin Maloney, Community Development and Support Co-Ordinator from Headway Essex. Kevin’s talk was both informative and entertaining. It was interesting to note how many issues affecting people with acquired brain injury are very similar to issues faced by people who have been through some form of cardiac event.

will give us the start for 2018 fund raising
Enclosed is an addressed envelope and if you could return your tickets by 4th December If paying by cheque please make it out to Basildon & District Heart Support Group
Thank you. David March (Treasurer)
Hearts & Minds 2017 Project - Patient Lounge , Chelmer Ward - Update
The work in converting an existing unused treatment room into a Patient Lounge has now been completed The room is already being used and we are receiving very positive feedback. The formal opening was performed in September by Danny McCormack. It is thanks to the generosity of our members that we have been able to help with this excellent initiative. We have now been approached by Roding Ward with a view to assisting them to improve their patient lounge facilities. More news on this in our next newsletter.
Cycle Ride - Update We are delighted to announce that Ray, Perry and others successfully completed the ride from London to Southend (52 miles) on 16th July. Also, Ray and his work colleague, Emmanuelle cycled round all the Halifax branches, a total of 54 miles. The money raised from these events is shared with the British Heart Foundation. Kirsty Brzeczek from the BHF attended the meeting on Monday 16th October to receive a cheque for £1226.
We have received a couple of very generous donations recently; firstly, from the CTC, who recently held their 10th anniversary ball and raised £1000, of which we receive £800. Another major donation was received from Mitsubishi Electrical. They donated £1000 in memory of their late employee Kevin Nesbitt in line with his family’s wishes. A donation of £508.00 has been received from relations and friends of the late Betty Tilby, mother of one of our members, Bill Tilby
Whist recognising these donations, we must also thank all those who make donations. It is the generosity of all these people that enable us to undertake the work we do in support of CTC. Thank you to you all.
