Newsletter March - April - May 2018
Welcome to the second newsletter of 2018. The recent bad weather thankfully didn’t impact on our evening meetings.  Hopefully, the better weather is now with us to stay. Plenty of news for you and some things to look forward to.

We have had two excellent evening meetings since the last newsletter.

- We were joined by Sister Sheila Smith who gave us a fascinating and informative update on the progress being made with the Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation (TAVI) procedure. Unfortunately, Dr Aggrawal was unable to join us, but Sheila provided a first class insight to the background to this procedure and how people are selected to undergo this as opposed to traditional surgery for Aortic Valve replacement.

April - Back by popular request, we were joined by Andrew Babicz who gave an interesting an amusing illustrated talk on the ‘Great Gardens of Great Britain’. Andrew spent the whole evening with us and took time to answer many gardening related questions from our members.

May - Our next meeting on 21st May will be a practical hands on CPR session, led by Ray Simpson. Everyone should know how to perform CPR, so come along and get some practice.

June -
Our speaker at the June meeting on 18th June will be Dr Dungu.

Quiz Night - Friday 25th May. Tickets are on sale at £5 per head for this every popular event. With a maximum of 14 tables of 8 per table, you need to get in quickly as there are only a few spaces left. Tickets are available from Wendy. The theme of the quiz will reflect the 10 year celebrations and will include some favourite sections from previous quizzes as well as some new sections.

Gala Dinner to Mark Our 10th Anniversary

This year is the tenth anniversary of the foundation of our group. To mark the occasion, a Gala Dinner is to be held at the Holiday Inn, Basildon, on Friday 21st September. There will be a three course meal consisting of Ham Hock and Split Pea Soup, Lemon and Herb Chicken Breast followed by Raspberry and White Chocolate Cheesecake. A vegetarian option will be available.  Live entertainment will be by “Elvis”, and there will a raffle, an auction and a cash bar. Tickets, priced at £30 per head are on sale, contact Ray Simpson on 07989 964630‬.
World Record Attempt

On Saturday 9th June, the  CTC and SADS UK will be attempting to create a new world record for the largest gathering of Cardiac Arrest survivors in one place. At least 50 Survivors are required to attend the 10 minute slot when the attempt is made. If you are eligible and would like to take part, you will need to pre register and provide ID and official confirmation that you have had a cardiac arrest.
There will also be an exhibition, lunch, an educational seminar with Q&A’s and then in the evening a Celebration of Life party.
Check in will be 11am - 12.45pm. The exhibition will be open from 11am. The actual record attempt will be at 1pm. Lunch will be 1.15pm and the seminar will run from 2pm. The Celebration of Life party will take place from 6.30pm at Ye Olde Plough House, RM14 3SR

If you are interested taking part, please contact either Donna, Karen or Tina at the CTC.

New General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR)

As mentioned on previous occasions, new regulations in connection with Data Protection are due to come into force in May. You will shortly be receiving a letter asking you to reaffirm that you wish to remain as a member of this group and that your details are correct. There will be a link on our website for you to complete if you prefer. Also on the website is the policy statement that we are required to make in connection with this legislation. Please take the time to have a look at it.

Future distribution of this newsletter.
